Lander-Art - Zengineerz Guide to Making Fun
A workshop/exhibition ostensibly about game design suggesting the value of creating one’s own rules and being aware of how shared systems are often co-opted by authority figures and turned into ideological tools or made exclusive to all but an elite group. The history of the game Monopoly provides an example of ideological subversion. The ultimate goal and result of my workshop was to empower the creativity and expression of the masses, who could make their own games or art and hang that work on the walls of a museum.
The glitch is a reminder to us all that our systems are constructs and imperfect. It can inspire us to think beyond the supposed limits of the rules as they have been taught to us. The glitch is an opportunity to find inspiration in what is flawed, joy in what is unexpected and beauty in what the system tells us is wrong and ugly. A true Zengineer revels in the glitch because it opens new pathways to explore and create.
